The Great Game Of Britain Rules
All aboard! Race your train from London to your secret destination and back, dodging delays and outwitting your fellow passengers in this classic railway adventure.

What's in the Box?
- Game board (map of Britain with railway routes and stations)
- Train tokens (1 per player)
- Destination cards
- Hazard cards (delays, diversions, etc.)
- Dice
- Instructions
Setting Up
- Lay out the board and place all train pieces at London Euston (the starting station).
- Shuffle the destination cards and deal one to each player – keep your destination secret!
- Shuffle the hazard cards and place them face down near the board.
- Decide who goes first (roll the dice, highest wins!).
How to Play
- On your turn, roll the dice and move your train token along the railway lines that number of spaces.
- Follow the tracks – you can change direction at junctions and stations, but not double back in a single move.
- If you land on a station with a hazard symbol, draw a hazard card and follow its instructions (it might delay you or send you on a detour!).
- When you reach your secret destination, reveal your card. Then set off back to London!
- If another player is on your space, you can swap destination cards (optional rule, check your edition).
- First player to reach their destination and return to London wins!
Tip: Plan your route carefully – some lines are faster, but hazards can strike when you least expect it!
Winning the Game
The winner is the first player to travel from London to their secret destination and back, overcoming hazards and rival players along the way.
Fun Variations
- Express Play: Skip hazard cards for a faster game.
- Sabotage: Allow players to play hazard cards on each other when on the same space.
- Team Race: Play in teams, combining dice rolls and working together!
Did you know? The Great Game Of Britain was inspired by real British railway journeys and is a favourite for family trainspotters!
